Bunker and Landscaping tests
I hope you had a great Christmas and that the coming year brings all good things for you. I'm sitting there eating my Christmas pudding thinking of how to make my bunker lips better... hahaha! I know...... I'm a complete saddo. It's like that guy from "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" who starts to shape his mashed potato into a mountain shape which he keeps seeing in his dreams!
It's ok though, my family has got used to my strange ways!!
Anyways, I wanted to make the lips look more realistic, instead of the dirt lip simply being dark brown etc I wanted a more organic lighter looking texture. I also wanted to shape the lips of the traps to give a more realistic look that happens when the sand works it's way away from the steep parts of the bunkers. Most people never give a second thought to things like that but I'm hoping that these finer touches along with good hole design makes my courses that little bit different to most other apcd offerings.
After much thinking and experimenting I came up with this. I think it looks pretty effective and after a bit of fine tuning the lip texture colour with some help from my friend Jorgen Ekroth, I'm happy with it.
Here's a pic of another bunker with the some more advanced sculpting and lip effects.
Something else that has been on my mind recently is improving the overall "flow" of my elevations to create landforms that are interesting and pleasing to the eye. When you couple this to varied and strategic hole design I think it makes for a good combination.
